Hunger hurts year round. While there is amazing generosity between Thanksgiving and Christmas, many of our neighbors must deal with food insecurity and hunger all year long. Food banks are struggling to keep their shelves filled creating greater stress on local food pantries and soup kitchens. The Office for Social Concerns is challenging parishes to support a diocesan Ash Wednesday Food Drive. Clean out your cupboards on Fat Tuesday and bring the canned goods to the parish on Ash Wednesday (the diocesan deacons are coordinating the collection and distribution). This diocesan request is for donations above and beyond your normal food collections to respond to these difficult times For more information, please call (614) 241-254 or email ecordle@colsdioc.org.

Next weekend second collection – “Support United States Black, Indian, Eskimo and Aleute Missions” The annual appeal is a vital part of the Church for the Year 2008. Funds are needed to continue present Evangelization programs; even more, to continue to assist those parishes devastated by hurricanes to totally rebuild their programs. The Church’s National Collection for Black and Indian Missions in the United States will be taken at all the Masses next weekend. Because of the generosity of the people of this parish and parishes around the U.S., over 8.8 million dollars were contributed and 98 cents of every dollar was distributed. 135 Dioceses received assistance from the collection. Through your gifts, you join your sacrifice to those who sacrifice daily to lead others to Christ. You become a Co-missionary for the Church. Please give what you are able. If we give a little – a lot will be accomplished.
